Question 1

How much does it cost to transport caravan & motorhome from Perth to Melbourne?

Accepted Answer

The cost depends on the size and weight of your load, the exact pickup and drop-off points, and whether your carrier can fit it as a backload. Perth to Melbourne is roughly 2,721 km. Post your load on HaulMatch and compare quotes from carriers with visible verification status who already run this lane — comparing several is the quickest way to a fair price.

Question 2

How long does it take to move freight from Perth to Melbourne?

Accepted Answer

The drive is about 2,721 km, or roughly 34 hours one way. Allowing for pickup, mandated rest breaks and the interstate leg, carriers generally quote 4–7 days for door-to-door delivery on this lane. A backload can take a little longer because it is scheduled around the carrier's other stops.

Question 3

Can a backload make Perth to Melbourne cheaper?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes. Backloads exist on Perth to Melbourne but they are less frequent than on the busy east-coast lanes, so flexible pickup dates and posting early give you the best chance of matching a carrier already making the trip.

Question 4

Can my caravan be towed or does it need to be carried?

Accepted Answer

A registered, roadworthy caravan can usually be towed. Unregistered vans or those needing repair are carried on a trailer. Note rego status and any faults in your listing.

Question 5

Is my caravan covered during transport?

Accepted Answer

Confirm insurance with your chosen carrier before the move. Many carriers carry transit cover — ask and get it in writing.

Question 6

Does freight from Western Australia to Victoria need an oversize (OSOM) permit?

Accepted Answer

A move to or from WA travels outside NHVR jurisdiction, so oversize or overmass loads need permits from Main Roads WA — not NHVR Go. Very wide loads (over ~5.5 m) may also require a WA Traffic Escort Warden, which can add roughly $1,000–$2,500 per day to a quote. Confirm requirements with Main Roads WA before booking.
